Woking’s history dates from 673AD when it began as a settlement for a Wessex tribe.
Today’s Woking started to build around the railway after it was built in the 1800’s.
Woking was the first town in the UK to have a crematorium and later a mosque.
Woking has always been known as a conservative safe seat with the Liberal Democrats the main opposition in the last couple of general elections.
The rail line at Woking runs a frequent service into London Waterloo and is also on the Portsmouth line and the RailAir coach runs half hourly to Heathrow Airport.
The major roads serving Woking are, the very busy, A320, M25 motorway and the A3 which is south of the town.

From the top floor of the Peacock centre the cinema and theatre can be entered.
Woking has a wide selection of public houses, cafes and restaurants and the variety of foods including Indian, Chinese, Nepalese, Pizza and Pasta, with also traditional English Cuisine and continental type Brasseries.
For sporting entertainment Woking has good choice with indoor swimming pools ‘Pool in the Park’, and a leisure centre. Outdoor activities include cricket and five-aside football pitches, tennis courts, skatepark, bowling greens, a crazy golf course and a childrens adventure park.
Woking was once home to H.G.Wells, the famous author, and the McLaren Formula One motor racing team and Raikkonen Robertson Racing are bothe located near Woking.
