Wilmslow is a town in Cheshire lying just south of Manchester.
Until the railway arrived in Wilmslow in 1842 it had only a few farms and a church.
Wilmslow grew to be a desirable area in the Victorian times and became home to wealthy businessmen. More recently it has been know for having residents such as footballers and stars of the television programme Coronation Street.
Wilmslow is well situated being on the A34, having a good train service with a planned hourly service to Euston, commencing in 2008. Manchester airport is only four miles away but the town does receive a certain amount of aircraft noise.
The town is home to Umbro whose headquarters are in the area. Also in town are the food technologists of Sainsbury’s and Royal London Mutual Insurance. One of the Governments executive agencies, Information Commissioners Office is also situated in Wilmslow.
The town has a leisure centre that has a good range of facilities, a library and it’s own fire and police stations.
Wilmslow sells one fifth of all Aston Martin sales nationally.
