Sutton is situated in the bed of Thanet Sands.
Thanet Sands allowed wells, so providing water to the area, whereas to the north there was only unusable surface water. It was because of this factor that right from early history Sutton drew settlements to the area.
Sutton nowadays is one of many centres around London. Its transport links are good and there is a one way system around the High Street plus three car parks.
Two large shopping centres, Times Square and the larger St. Nicholas Centre this is over three floors. The town is good for shopping because it has over two hundred shops that include many well-known stores. The High Street area is pedestrianised during shop opening hours.

Harry Secombe, the humourist/singer was well known locally and has a theatre in Sutton named after him.
Thomas Wall, the ice cream and sausage manufacturer also had links with the town.
