Property Information

In the Craven district of North Yorkshire lays Settle, a small market town, located in Ribblesdale.

Settle is probably best known for its railway station that is at the end of the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway. This is a seventy-two mile route through the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. It travels over the twenty-four arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct and through the longest tunnel on the line at Blea Moor. Then travels onwards through little country villages and market towns finally arriving at Carlisle.

Settle has a weekly market on Tuesdays in the Market Place. This is surrounded by shops often selling goods that are only to be found in the Settle area and are run by the local people. There are a couple of supermarkets in town but the majority of shops tend to be family run. In the centre of town there is a large building, The Shambles, this has shops on 2 levels and housing above. The town hall is also situated is this area of the town centre

There is plenty of parking around the town with three car parks in walking distance of the centre of Settle.

At the rear of town is a zig-zag path that leads to the top of Castleberg Crag and from here can be seen the town in its dale and fell.

There is plenty of assorted accommodation in Settle from camping sites to hotels and everything in between.

Property for rent here is available at average costs of £500pcm for a 2 bed property and £350pcm for a l bed property.

The area around Settle includes caves where remains of mammoth, bear and reindeer have been found plus implements and ornaments and pieces of flint and bone. The flint finds were unusual for the area as there is no flint around but was probably used for arrowheads.

Some of the cases to visit are the Victoria Cave, Clapham and Weatherside.

Also worth a visit are the chasm of Hell Pot and the waterfall of Stainforth Force. The cliffs around here have the largest amount of limestone in Britain.

The Three Peaks are a short distance from Settle and cover one hundred and sixty square kilometres in the Pennines. A large part of this area is termed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Peaks are about seven hundred metres high and because of the landscape and hill walking areas they are one of the most popular places in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Several pathways have ad to be repaired as with rain and the tramping feet they had begun to erode.

Settle is close to the A65, Leeds to Kendal Road that by passes the town.
