Property Information

Lowestoft lies on the North East Coast of England. The town is divided in two by Lake Lothing, the north being the commercial centre and the south a seaside holiday resort.

Until the l960’s fishing was the main industry in Lowestoft, the Eastern Coach Works were also big employers in the l960’s and built both single and double decker buses to send all over the country. The other main employers were the oil and gas companies, of which there were several, Shell being the largest and this closed in 2003.

There is a very large wind turbine located near the sea in Lowestoft and was erected in 2004. It is 262ft to hub height and each of the three blades weighs 10 tonnes and is 147ft long. It was struck by lightning in 2007 but the damage was minimal and it was back working the same day.

Lowestoft Air Festival was started in 1996 and has grown annually. In 2006 it attracted 420,000 people over two days but only roughly half that amount in 2007 due to bad weather. Sponsors, Birds Eye Frozen Foods, pulled out and new sponsors are now needed although the council have pledged support till 2010. Donations over the past two years have been low and the council are concerned about the long-term future of the show.

Lowestoft has beautiful beaches three of which hold blue flag awards. Corton Nudist Beach is in the Northern part of town.
