Lincoln is a cathedral city and is county town of Lincolnshire. Lincoln has links to the Saxons, Romans and Vikings all having left their mark on the city.

For hundreds of years Lincoln has been known for its heavy machinery industry. The first ever tanks were designed and built in Lincoln by William Foster and Co. Ltd.

R + H (which became RGT) opened the first ever gas turbine engine plant and became a hugely successful company and is now the largest employer in Lincoln employing 5,000 staff. They were taken over in 2003 by Siemens AG and are now called Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery.

The town’s economy relies on public administration, commerce, arable farming and tourism.

Many of Lincoln’s old industrial plants were left empty when they ceased trading but they are now being redeveloped and many have become multi occupant units including LA Fitness Gym and Lincolnshire FM radio Station.

There is a large number of IT companies within the town and e-commerce mail order companies are opening up such as RecylceShop.com Toptones.com and Attitudes.UK.com.

Lincoln is a very historical city and because of this attracts many tourists throughout the year. The Castle and the Cathedral are of course the city’s main attractions but there are many others to visit such as The Collection part of the Usher Gallery and is a popular attraction along with the Museum of Lincolnshire Life and the Conservatory on the Lawn with other Nature Reserves nearby.

Waddington Airfield and Scampton Airfield (home to the RAF’s Red Arrows) are both in the area.

A Christmas market is held on the second weekend of December in and around the castle grounds and is based on a traditional German market.

Independent specialist shops can be found in both Bailgate and Steep Hill and draw visitors to these areas.

Cutting the shopping centre in two is a level crossing, this has been a city issue since the 1860’s.

The shopping centre is good with many shops including Mini Cahoots, Harlies, Crumbsnatchers, Bit of Skirt, The Collection, Chameleon, Pause One, White, Envy, Dollar Jeans and Eduard.
