Leighton Buzzard is a market town in Bedfordshire. The town lies close to the M1 motorway and A5 trunk road. The Grand Union Canal runs through the town alongside the River Ouzel.

There has been evidence of communities living in the area since ancient times and pottery and jewellery has been found dating from the 6th century. All Saints Church is an early parish church dating back to 1277. The church has a magnificent 190ft spire and has been called the cathedral of South Bedfordshire.

The town also has a 19th century Town Hall with a clock tower and a 15th Century pentagonal market cross. The NatWest Bank is in the style of Italian palazzo and Barclays Bank is a beautiful Victorian building. Also a very popular attraction is the narrow gauge heritage railway.

The town’s library and theatre are combined and live events and screenings regularly take place. Leighton Buzzard is well known for its market. There has been a market in town since 909AD and is now open both Tuesday and Saturdays. The traders have formed their own committee and meet four times a year.

The town has been home to various industries including Lipton Tea, now closed, Gossard Underwear Company, Lancer Bros. Forklift manufacturers plus there is a large quarry.

Countywide and Connells/Sequence, the country’s two largest estate agent chains both have headquarters in Leighton Buzzard as does the UK’s branch of Tupperware. The town is home to many amateur dramatic and music groups plus several sports clubs.

There is a wide choice of property for rent in the town with average prices of £560pcm for a l bed flat, £675pcm for a 2 bed flat, £850pcm for a 2 bed house and £875pcm for a e bed house.

There are a variety of shops in town, centred mainly around the High Street, and include Kings Road Fashion, Maris-Helene, New Look, Wild Wood Clothing, Munchkins and Wear2school, larger stores include Boots the Chemist and WH Smith. Supermarkets in the area are plentiful with Aldi, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and Iceland all trading within the area.

The town has several parks the two largest being Pages Park, with a croquet lawn, tennis courts, children’s play area, cricket pitch, basket ball court and three football pitches. Parsons Close Recreation Ground has a paddling pool, skate park, play area and bandstand.

Leighton Buzzard is home to a great selection of public houses, cafes and restaurants serving Chinese, Indian, Italian and traditional dishes.
