Kidderminster is town in the Wyre Forest in Worcestershire.
The carpet industry, founded in 1785 by Brintons was and still is important to the local community. The local paper is still called The Shuttle named after the shuttles used in the carpet looms.
Although the trade has declined they are still an important and the largest employer in the town and Brintons still employ several hundred staff.
Kidderminster is the home of Victoria Carpets is a company making bespoke carpets for the hotel and business trade. One significant user is the Eiffel Tower. They have factories in Munster, Ireland and Dandenong, Australia.
The second largest employer in Kidderminster is Sealine a manufacturers of luxury yachts.
The now redundant British Sugar Corporation silos cans been from the Malvern Hills thirty miles away.
The town has two railway stations with trains to; Birmingham, Worcester and London.
The town is home to a wide selection of pubs, bars and nightclubs. Mirage is the oldest club this opened in the 1990’s. The recently renamed and modernised DY10 takes its name from the town’s postcode. Other bars include the Watermill and NU Bar.
The town centre has been redeveloped and the commercial retail area Weavers Wharf attracts many visitors and shoppers. Slingfield Mill is a grade II listed building that has been converted into a retail outlet within Weavers Wharf.
The shopping is good in Kidderminster with a great selection of shops with some of those being, PJ’s Kids Zone, Dolli Mixture, Cottontails, Smarty Pants, Bon Marche, Wild Heat, CMD, Dorothy Perkins, Officers Club and Bridge55.com.
