Kingston upon Hull is normally referred to just as Hull and is a city in Yorkshire.
Hull is a major UK port and ferry port to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.
The town was badly hit by the June 2007 floods that damaged 20% of the city’s housing and 90 of the 105 schools. The cost of the repair to schools alone is in the region of £100m.
The city was built on reclaimed land and a large part is at or below sea level. This makes it prone to more flooding due to global warming.
Several large businesses operate in Hull such as BP, Seven Seas, BAe Systems, Smith and Nephew, Reckitt Benckiser and Croda International. Hull is also the UK centre of food processing.
Hull is home to a university built in 1927, housing some 16,000 students and is widely known as the friendliest university.

Hull Paragon Railway Station has a direct service to London with others to the rest of the UK.
In trying to keep the residents safe and calm the traffic Hull has the most speed bumps and 20mph road restrictions than any other UK town.
There are several museums in Hull including the Yorkshire Water Museum, Streetlife and Transport Museum, Hull and East Riding museum and The Deep, the worlds only submarium.
Hull is home to three theatres where performances in drama, dance, pantomime and children’s programmes can be seen.
Hull has two large shopping centres, Prospect Centre and Princes Quay Shopping Centre the latter is built on stilts on what was once the Princes Dock. The Trinity Market is indoors with around fifty stalls situated next to Holy Trinity Church.
Shops to be found in Hull include Kidszone, Recreation Kids, Little Angels, Eastex, Hussey, Dresu, Leonard Silver Menswear, Dewhirst Clothing Factory Shop, Prem and Envy.
The St. Stevens development due to open in autumn 2007 will have several big name stores such as H&M, Zara, Next, Oasis and Topshop with other developments having a completion date of 2010.
The nightlife in Hull is good attracting both city residents and those from further afield. There are many pubs, bars and clubs include The Welly Club, Pozition, V-Bar and the Sugar Mill. Some nightclubs have closed as new clubs staying open till around 6am have become very popular.
Hull has a professional football team playing a Kingston Communications Stadium. The city also has rugby teams, an Ice Arena, this is an ice rink and concert venue and is home to hockey teams and an American football team.
