Hereford’s focal point is the cathedral, situated just north of the River Wye in the heart of the city. Inside is housed the Mappe Mundi, a medieval map of the world from the 13th century and restored in the 20th century. Its sandstone tower is a dominant feature.
The town is full of narrow streets and squares with some fine old buildings, included in these is the museum and art gallery.

The city has football and rugby clubs and a 5 division, 9 pin skittle league that was founded in 1902. It also has a rowing club with strong junior groups.
