Egham dates back before 666AD when Chertsey Abbey was built. It was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 to have 15 hides of land worth £30.10s.0d.
The Magna Carta was signed at nearby Runnymede, a memorial to the event, at the bottom of Coopers Hill was built in 1957.
