Property Information

Eastbourne is a seaside resort situated at the foot of the South Downs. Until the 19th century it was a small rural town after which it become a larger busier town especially when the railway arrived in the 1800’s.

Today it is a thriving town with 4 million visitors a year. It has a large business community but tourism is still its main source of economy and the largest employer.

The town has a great shopping centre, the Arndale Centre, which is a busy area with shops that include Adams, Cats Whiskers, Phase 8, Circles, West One, Azure, The Dress Shop, BN21 Designs, Urban Industry, Animal, Student Tailor Ltd and Locker Room.

Eastbourne is easily accessible by road and train with services running to London, Victoria, Hastings and Ashford, Kent.

Property for rent is readily available with average prices of £530pcm for a l bed flat, £800pcm for a 2 bed flat and £750pcm for a 3 bed house. The medieval old town has a 12th century church and one of the country’s oldest inns The Lambe.

The town is normally more of a weekend resort nowadays but some the events held in town, such as the Ladies Tennis Tournament attract a great many visitors and hotels tend to be full during these events. Beachy Head is an infamous landmark of Eastbourne well known for the high number of suicides that take place off the cliff.

The four miles of shingle beach are clean and popular along which are situated many guesthouses and hotels.

Much development has been seen in Eastbourne and one site built in the 1990’s caused a great deal of controversy as where there are now houses, luxury apartments, shops and a marina known as the Sovereign Harbour, there was once an area where many rare plants grew then known as the Crumbles.

The town also houses four theatres, museums and a band stand that hold concerts and tribute nights. Eastbourne is also fortunate to have several large parks. The largest and newest is the Shinewater Park and this has a narrow gauge railway, fishing lake, basketball court, football pitches, BMX and skate park and a children’s playground. Many other of the parks in the area have facilities for rugby, tennis and bowls.

Sports in and around town include football at Blue Square South and a speedway track that is also used for stock car racing on Wednesdays during the summer.
