Derby lies on the banks of the River Derwent and is surrounded by the shire county of Derbyshire.

Bonnie Prince Charlie made camp at Derby on the 4th December 1745 on his way to seize the English crown. The Derby Industrial Museum, another popular attraction, shows the industrial heritage and achievement of Derby including the Rolls Royce areo engines, railways, foundries along with quarrying and mining.

The city’s main indoor shopping centre is the West field Derby this was opened in October 2007. The twelve-screen cinema is due to open in the spring of 2008.

Shopping is in two centre the new shopping centre and Sadlergate, an older area housing boutiques and coffee shops. Some of the shops to be found include Xplicit, Zink, Forge, Lapel, Jillian Hart, Republic, Haze, MacQueen, Pennys, Young ‘n Funky, Sazoo and Ekko Clothing.

Derby has a thriving nightlife with many clubs, bars and public houses many are in the Sadlegate area.
