Property Information

This town was established in 1871. It is a seaside resort that attracted many tourists in the 1960’s and 1970’s but has declined mainly due to foreign package holidays. It is now more of a retirement place nowadays.

It has good beaches that still attract tourists during the summer. Clacton also has a pier, arcades, golf course, airfield and caravan parks.

There is an annual Clacton Carnival and a Clacton Air Show involving such aircraft as the Lancaster Bomber, Spitfires and helicopters plus a display from the Red Arrows.

It has a busy shopping centre with many of the usual High Street stores including Marks and Spencer, Woolworth and East of England Co-op Society. There is a good selection of smaller shops such as Yours, Rearne, Frock Shop, Divas, Leading Labels Ltd and Suits You plus several better known named shops.

Property for rent in Clacton costs in the region of £500pcm for a l bed flat, £450pcm for a l bed bungalow, and £615pcm for a 2 bed flat. The town is home to two theatres, the Princes and the West Cliff. The West Cliff is one of the last theatres in the country to still put on old style summer shows.

Originally the main access was by sea with ships docking at Clacton pier. In 1920 the London Road was built to cope with holiday-makers and in the late 1970’s the eastern section of the A120 opened allowing even more access to the town.
