Cheltenham is a large spa town in Gloucestershire. The town is on the edge of the Cotswolds and has been a holiday spa town since the discovery of mineral springs in 1716.

The River Chelt flows under and through the town. Cheltenham is home to the campus of both the University of Gloucestershire and Gloucester College.

Each year the town is host to several festivals including those of music, literary and science. Cheltenham is well known for its Racecourse. It is the home of National Hunt (jump racing) in the UK. Meetings are held between October and April. The racecourse is best known for the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup, usually held in March coinciding with St. Patrick’s day when the town becomes crowded with Irish horse racing enthusiasts.

There are grounds for football and rugby plus the town has three golf courses. There is always property for rent in Cheltenham with prices around £650 to £1,000pcm for a 2 bed flat and £750 to £1,600pcm for a 3 bed house.

Cheltenham Spa Railway Station is on the main Bristol to Birmingham line. The Cheltenham Spa Express once known as the Cheltenham Flyers is a named passenger train that connects Cheltenham to London.

Cheltenham is a regional shopping centre and home to several department stores and has the Regent Arcade and Beechwood Shopping Centre. The old Flowery Brewery is now a leisure centre with a gym, cinema, bingo, restaurants, pubs and bars.

The town has a good nightlife and can attract around 30,000 people at the weekend. It has been said that Cheltenham has more late night venues per head than anywhere else in the country.

The major employers in the town include such businesses as food processing, aerospace, electronics and tourism. The Government Communications Headquarters, GE Aviation, Dowtry Rotol, Chelsea Building Society, Endsleigh Insurance, Zurich Financial Services and Kraft Food’s UK all have sites in or around Cheltenham.

The Sandford Parks Lido is one of England’s largest outside pools with a 50mtr pool, children’s pool and paddling pool set in landscaped gardens.
