Property Information

Ascot is best known for its Royal Ascot Racecourse.

The first meeting was in 1711 and was with Queen Ann’s approval.

An average of 300,000 people visit Ascot for Royal Ascot Week, held annually in June. People from all over the world arrive to see, not only the races, but to take part in what has become a huge fashion parade. Ladies Day is the busiest of the four day meet and ladies in the Royal Enclosures must wear a hat that covers the ‘crown on their head’. Men must wear morning suits and to be admitted in the Royal Enclosure for the first time it is necessary to be sponsored by someone who has attended at least four times.

Ascot has twenty-five racing days a year and was closed for nearly two years in 2004 and redeveloped this was funded by the Allied Irish Bank at a cost of £185 million. As the owner Queen Elizabeth reopened the course on the 20th June 2006.

The new stand has been under criticism for giving too much space to restaurants and hospitality areas rather than more tiered viewing for spectators.

Ascot has a nightclub, Jacz, coffee bars and public houses many serving a high standard of cuisine including Indian, Italian and traditional restaurants.

The railway was opened in Ascot in 1845 mainly because of the races and today the railway runs to Reading and Waterloo. Ascot has Heathrow Airport, the M3 and M4 motorways in close proximity and is about a forty-five minute drive from London.

Also in Ascot is the Ascot Polo Club an internationally known club which also gives lessons and hosts corporate events.
