Our agent in Huddersfield:-
WHEN David Jeffries sold his business six years ago, he was amazed to find it was the company’s head quarters, rather than the firm itself, that netted him a tidy sum.
The Yorkshire born entrepreneur was quick to invest the proceeds of the sale on his commercial property into buy to let.
Today he owns four properties in the old mill town of Huddersfield, combining a full time job in instrumentation for ventilation equipment with a thriving property portfolio.
Jeffries is just one example of a rapidly expanding team of highly experienced and successful landlords to join LettingAgent.com to let out properties in the UK.
“I’ve always loved properties, explains Jeffries: “It started several years ago when my wife and I built our dream home from scratch.
“I worked as a project manager, employing an architect to design our ideal home and a team of builders and tradesmen to build it. It was an incredible experience that taught me every aspect of property development, from designing, building and maintaining properties.”
Jeffries, a married father of two, believes it is his specialist know-how and hands on property experience that gives him the edge over traditional letting agents, he says: “I’ve worked for many years in building services, and know this industry inside out. I understand plumbing, electricity, boiler repair and have an excellent network of experts at my disposal.
“I’ve used letting agents in the past, adds Jeffries: “And found that when a tenant reported a problem, the agent would call out an electrician or plumber, even though it was often a case of flicking a switch. Even if there was a fault, they didn’t have the technical knowledge to understand what the tradesman was telling them.”
Jeffries has chosen to let out properties in Huddersfield because Yorkshire is a county he knows best.
“Huddersfield has a good, buoyant letting market, with plenty of professionals and families, says Jeffries: “The town originally made its wealth from cotton mills, these days it is its close proximity to major cities such as Leeds and Manchester that gives it the advantage. It has easy access to the M1 and the M62 and it is only half an hour away by train to Manchester Airport.
“Huddersfield stands half between the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District, some of the most beautiful countryside on earth.”
Jeffries believes one of the strengths of LettingAgent.com is that as landlords they fully understand the pressures involved in buy to let.
“We understand the difficulties and problems involved in running your own business. The credit crunch may be biting, but so far it hasn’t affected house prices in Huddersfield, which appear to be holding their own, says Jeffries.
“In many ways it is an ideal time for landlords, he adds: “A weakening sales market will always boost demand in the rental market, which is great news for landlords, who are now in the enviable position of being able to find good tenants that are prepared to pay the full asking price.”
